With age comes maturity but it also
brings health issues to the forefront. In fact with age, you
will find the skin of your body including that around the eyes
becoming loose. You will notice some loose skin folds on the
upper eyelid and even under the lower eye lid and they can
be quite prominent. Many people experience loosening of the
muscles under their eyes, which makes the skin under their
eyes, look droopy. However, this can be treated with cosmetic
eyelid surgery.
Cosmetic eyelid surgery can successfully remove excess fat
or skin from around or under your eyes and give you tight and
younger looking skin by eliminating the crow’s feet and other
wrinkle lines. But before you can think of going under the
knife, you need to get an opinion from your general physician.
Always refer to medical help before taking a decision regarding
surgical procedures. After all, you should know what to expect
once the cosmetic eyelid surgery is over.
Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery Process
First, your surgeon is going to examine your vision, eyelids,
retina, tear film, and the front of your eye. Then they will
examine the current condition of the skin under and over your
eyelids and also measure the actual position of your eyelids
as well as eyebrows.
Once the examination is over, they will tell you how best
you can prepare for the cosmetic eyelid surgery process. If
you are a smoker then you will have to quit as smoking will
increase the risk of a chest infection and this will slow down
your post-operation recovery.
A cosmetic eyelid surgery is mostly conducted using general
anesthesia so you will be asleep during the entire surgery.
Most of the times, your surgeon will decide whether you need
general anesthesia or local anesthesia. The entire cosmetic
eyelid surgery operation will not take more than 2 hours and
your surgeon probably use the laser or the conventional technique.
During a cosmetic eyelid surgery on your upper eyelids, the
surgeon will make cuts along the natural lines as well as creases
on the upper eyelid. For the lower eyelids, the cuts will be
made just below the eyelashes. They will then remove any loose
skin or extra fat and the cuts will be stitched. The stitches
will disappear (dissolving stitches) with 7-10 days while the
tape supporting your eyelids will be removed within 3-5 days.
