LEADING UK CONSULTANT PLASTIC SURGEON ADRIAN RICHARDS LAUNCHES OWN FACIAL REJUVENATION BRAND
October 29th, 2008As the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) reports a 37% increase in the number of facelifts, leading Consultant Plastic Surgeon Adrian Richards MBBS, MSc, FRCS (PLAST) is launching his own facial rejuvenation brand.
‘Adrian Richards Facial Rejuvenation Surgery’ offers a holistic approach to facial rejuvenation, with an extensive range of surgical and non-surgical treatments designed to be specifically appropriate to a patient’s age. Patients can look forward to obtaining a more balanced and natural European look instead of the traditional North American approach.
When considering facial rejuvenation, Mr Richards stresses that patients need to remain realistic – treatments can only make you look up to 8-10 years younger. Many people see a facelift as something for the older generation but in fact you are never too young to start looking after your face. Over the years, there are four main factors that contribute to the ageing of the face – skin quality, gravitational changes, active lines caused by muscle contraction and volume loss – that can be treated.
Skin treatments such as laser therapy or light chemical peels can help those in their thirties look fresher and brighter. For those in their forties, a mini-face lift or MACS-lift can help restore a more youthful face shape. And for those in their mid- to late-fifties or older, a more traditional facelift or SMAS-lift will most likely be appropriate.
Surgical Director Adrian Richards says, “With the significant increase in the demand for facial procedures, I felt it was appropriate to establish a holistic treatment facility for facial rejuvenation. Everyone’s face is obviously individual to them and it is therefore important to tailor the techniques used to their physical characteristics. Most importantly, the face should not be left until more drastic correction is needed but rather treatments should be used to turn back the clock earlier and more gently.”
Adrian Richards is acknowledged as one of the leading facial rejuvenation surgeons in the UK, carrying out more than 100 facial rejuvenation surgical procedures each year. He is one of the few cosmetic surgeons in the UK who specialises in facial plastic surgery – particularly facelift procedures.
Mr Richards has been at the forefront of bringing new, advanced techniques to the UK. He has written over 30 medical papers on plastic surgery and is the author of the best-selling textbook Keynotes on Plastic Surgery. He is also the founder of Cosmetic Courses, a company accredited by the Royal College of Physicians, which provides training to medical practitioners in Botox®, Chemical peels and Dermal fillers. As a recognised authority on Cosmetic Surgery, Mr Richards regularly appears on TV, radio and in the press.

COSMETIC SURGEON PAYS MORE THAN LIP SERVICE TO NEW TREATMENT
October 16th, 2008A leading plastic surgeon has launched a new procedure for permanent lip enhancement which has just recently been introduced to the UK. Adrian Richards, of Aurora, has introduced PermaLip™, a revolutionary silicone lip implant which mimics the contours of the lip and provides a natural-looking alternative to temporary lip fillers, which need constant top-ups.
According to Adrian Richards, leading plastic surgeon and member of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS):
“The arrival of Permalip™ is great news as it provides a viable and cost-effective alternative to fillers, which have to be topped up every four to six months and treatments can be painful. Permalip™ is a soft implant which gives very natural results, the procedure takes just 15 minutes under local anaesthetic and the implant is passed through a small incision in the lip which is sealed with a dissolvable suture. The patient can be up and around resuming normal activities within a couple of hours and variable swelling can occur for around a week or so following the procedure.”
Permalip™ is a patented, CE marked device designed exclusively for lip enhancement. Is manufactured by Eurosurgical (www.eurosurgical.co.uk) and comes in a variety of sizes. The implant cannot deflate or rupture and can be easily reversed if a patient wants to have it resized or removed entirely. The surface of the implant is non-porous, which minimises the chance of tissue adherence or in growth from surrounding lip tissue.
Says Adrian:
“The procedure is still very new to the UK but has been used in the United States where it has undergone extensive clinical tests. The cost is around £2,500, which, if a patient is having temporary lip fillers injected regularly at around £300, can be a cost effective and convenient solution in the long term.”
Aurora operates from a series of clinics and accredited hospitals covering areas including Princes Risborough, Northampton, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire and central London.

In a state of suspense
October 3rd, 2008Leading Plastic Surgeon Launches New Skin Suspending Facelift
Those wanting to eliminate the signs of ageing without going under the knife for traditional facelift surgery can now instead access the less-invasive Silhouette, a new type of thread lift procedure developed in California and trialled extensively throughout the US. This new improved version of the procedure was unveiled at this year’s British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) conference, and avoids the pitfalls of similar treatments which have been in the past publicised for their side effects.
Says Michael McKiernan, consultant plastic surgeon at Aurora Clinics:
“The idea of using threads to ‘suspend’ the facial tissues and improve skin appearance isn’t new: until recently a product based on barbed threads was widely used to create a rejuvenated appearance. However, side effects such a prickling and even splitting of the sutures caused loss of grip and the eventual failure of the treatment – leading to a loss of confidence in the procedure.”
Unlike the traditional thread lift, the Silhouette uses polypropylene threads in which knots have been made and around which soft, dissolving cones have been placed. The sutures are placed just under the skin and the cones are placed in ‘point first’, along the line of desired lift. When traction is placed on the thread, the cones anchor in the soft tissues and hold firmly, allowing the skin to be elevated – reducing wrinkles and heightening cheeks. Pairs of sutures are then tied together in small incisions hidden in the scalp. The cones cannot be seen or felt and eventually dissolve, as new collagen will have grown to hold the threads in place.
Michael added:
“The Silhouette technique is suitable for people of all ages but may appeal particularly to a younger age group who do not want to have a full facelift procedure, but still want to combat the signs of ageing and gain a visibly rejuvenated appearance. It is also viable because of the minimal downtime required, as the procedure can be carried out under a local anaesthetic. The threads can also be used for
neck lifts.“
Michael McKiernan is one of four plastic surgeons operating at Aurora, headed up by clinic founder Adrian Richards, of Aurora (www.aurora-clinics.co.uk). The other surgeons, Nitin Vaingankar and Michael Tyler complete the team, each bringing different specialist skills to the clinic to enhance the offering.
The arrival of Silhouette is the latest offering from Aurora, which offers popular aesthetic treatments such as cosmetic wrinkle treatments, dermal fillers, microdermabrasion and intense pulse light (IPL) treatments for hair reduction. Aurora has the full support and input of leading plastic surgeons and trained aestheticians – making it a dedicated centre for non-surgical aesthetic procedures. It also has ground-breaking skin analysis technology that identifies conditions including sun damage, pigmentation, acne and dry skin – to allow highly trained aestheticians find the most effective and tailored solution for each individual.
Skin analysis and cosmetic surgery consultations at Aurora are free of charge. Members of the public can book an appointment by calling 0800 328 5743. For further information about the services of Aurora and its locations,
