What will the Scarring Look Like After Liposuction?

July 23rd, 2010

Scarring for liposuction is usually done minimum and I tell tend to people that it will fade to a very small pale involve and while is doing so may that likely small mole.

Generally for each area that have/has liposuction two small incisions will be required. In some cases three will be needed.
And this is because to achieve a flat result it is best to for the liposuction to be performed in a crossed section like a lattice which won’t reduce the risk of developing ridges and numbness that can occur if the liposuction tube is place is inserted through one hole only.
If you are having number of areas are treated your surgeon maybe able to use the same small incisions to it to remove fat from more than one area. This reduces the amount of incisions you will require.

Extra Nipples

July 16th, 2010

Extra nipples [accessory nipples] are very common. They normally occur on one side but can occur on both and occur normally in a line underneath the nipple.

They vary in size significantly and this one, I would classify as a moderate size. Read the rest of this entry »

Inverted Nipples & Breastfeeding

June 22nd, 2010

Breastfeeding Baby - Nursing Picture

Inverted nipples are caused by tight milk ducts. They tether the nipple inwards and despite the muscle of the nipple trying to pull the nipple out, the tight milk ducts pull it inwards.

The milk ducts are very strong and some techniques for inverted nipple correction have aimed to lengthen and stretch these. Read the rest of this entry »

VASER Liposuction Better Than Normal Liposuction?

June 21st, 2010

Model Jessica Gomes and Her Hot Bikini Body_1

VASER Liposuction is the new craze in liposuction. Essentially, ultrasound energy is used to dissolve the fatty tissue and this machine that delivers the ultrasound energy is known as the VASER machine.

It is important to realise that just because you are being treated with VASER does not guarantee perfect results. What is more important is the skill of the injector.

The advantages of VASER treatment are quicker recovery, less bruising and swelling, but VASER treatment, if not used by an experienced practitioner, can cause problems such as irregularity and contour defects to the skin.

On balance I think, VASER therapy is better and has significant advantages to  traditional liposuction but it is very important to check the experience of your practitioner and it is best if you can get a personal recommendation from someone who has had similar treatment.

Who else is present when I have the operation?

June 10th, 2010

Another set of unsung heroes in any operation are the theatre team.

Again, it is essential that the surgeon and the scrub team have a very good understanding of what is involved in each operation.

I’ve worked with a scrub nurse for the past 8 years and she has unfortunately left work to have a baby 2 weeks ago. We replaced her here at Aurora Clinics with someone else with equal skill and experience. Read the rest of this entry »

How important is the anaesthetist in cosmetic surgical procedures?

June 7th, 2010

The anaesthetist together with the scrub team are perhaps the most under rated people in cosmetic surgery.

To get the best outcome from any operation both the anaesthetist and scrub team need to be very experienced and as good at their jobs as the surgeon themselves.

I only use 2 or 3 anesthetists who I have worked with for many years and have a very good relationship with them.

We understand what we need for each operation and they are able to control the blood pressure which reduces the risk of bleeding following surgery and also minimises any bruising.

My anaethertist is also an expert at local anaesthetic blocks which can numb the area following surgery so that patients have very little discomfort.

The other factor is post-operative sickness and again the type of anaesthetics we use minimise this. In the last 10 years, operating on 400 patients a year, I cannot remember a patient who has had severe sickness following surgery.

So my advice for anyone considering surgery is to ask the surgeon which anaesthetist he uses and whether they have significant experience working with the surgeon and also in the plastic surgical field.

Can you have a breast enlargement after Macrolane?

June 6th, 2010

acrolane

The answer to this is yes. I’m seeing an increasing amount of patients who have had Macrolane treatment in the last couple of years.

Most patients who have had Macrolane decide to have a formal

breast enlargement with a silicone implant. This is because some patients with Macrolane develop firmness around the Macrolane (encapsulization). Other people like the volume that Macrolane gives them but don’t like the tempering nature of this as Macrolane dissolves over approximately one year.

In the last month, I have performed 11 procedures removing Macrolane and insertion of breast implant. All of these patients have been very happy with the results and infact many of them have told me that the breast enlargement procedure actually is less painful than the Macrolane treatment itself.

It is a common misconception that breast enlargement by surgery is painful and Macrolane injection is not painful infact I have found this to be the other way around and so with most of my patients.

Should you apply sunblock everyday?

June 5th, 2010

sunburnt

The answer to this is yes. Even in cold, wet countries, such as United Kingdom, you are getting daily damage to your skin from ultraviolet light. The recommendation is therefore that you wear, you apply sunblock which is often included in a moisturizer every morning. This sunblock should be at least a sun protection factor of 25 for adults and over 40 for children.

These moisturizers with sunblock are not the thick oily types that we’ve that were around previously and are very light.

The best way of keeping you looking young is to prevent skin damage and the best way of doing this is with daily application of sunblock from a young age. In fact, you should be encouraging your children to apply sunblock and routinely as part of their daily routine.

Five things to expect your surgeon to discuss or show you at your consultation

June 2nd, 2010

It is very important that you feel comfortable with your surgeon at your consultation. It is very important that they discuss clearly with you the nature of the operation, likely result, recovery period and possible complications following surgery. Read the rest of this entry »
