Facelift
When Surgery Goes Wrong
December 17th, 2009The scars shown are in the incorrect position being too far down in the temporal region, to far forward in front of the ear and too low behind the ear. The skin is also too tight in front of the ear causing the redness in this region.
This is difficult to correct and enforces the importance of locating the scar in the correct position without undue tension on it as this can adversely affect the long term outcome and this lady will not be able to wear her hair up.

Adrian Richards explains how a SMAS Facelift can be modified to suit you
December 17th, 2009Hello, my name’s Adrian Richards, I’m a plastic surgeon and I’m the surgical director of Aurora Clinics. Today I’m going to be talking about the SMAS. In a previous video, I talked about the SMAS, superficial musculoaponeurotic system in the face. I described what it is and basically it’s a sheet which lies under the skin which supports the tissue which surgeons can modify. So skin over the top, another sheet like layer underneath which you can’t see which we can tighten up. Read the rest of this entry »
Adrian Richards explains what a Macs Facelift is.
December 15th, 2009Hello, my name’s Adrian Richards, thank you for watching the video. I’m a plastic surgeon and the surgical director of Aurora Clinics and today I’m going to be talking about a new type of facelift called a MACS facelift. I’m going to be discussing what it is and who’s suitable.
So a traditional facelift, which I’m going to talk about in other videos, has got a lot of names but might be known as a SMAS facelift, a deep plane facelift, all these words which I’ll discuss in other videos because the words used to describe facelifts are really, really complicated. So I’ll slowly work through that in the videos. Read the rest of this entry »
Has Anne Robinson had a face lift
August 24th, 2009
Reports over the weekend suggust that Anne Robibinson has undergone further facial procedures.
From the pictures above it looks as if something has been done. Face lifting procedures lift the soft tissues of the jowl and neck and you can see these are firmer. Her lower eyelids in particular look better and she may well have had a blepharoplasty procedure.
The quality of her skin is also much better and this is usually achieved by either a skin peel or laser procedure.
If you would like to know more about any of these procedures please take a look at our infomation videos.
Overall she looks good and this best achieved with a combination of surgical and non-surgical procedures.

A checklist before facial rejuvenation surgery
November 19th, 2008As more and more facial plastic surgery procedures are being performed, leading Consultant Plastic Surgeon Adrian Richards MBBS, MSc, FRCS (Plast) is seeing an increasing number of patients with problems following surgery. These can include asymmetry, skin irregularities, nerve damage and poor scarring.
This picture of a patient treated abroad and seen recently by Mr Richards has a significant elevation of the hairline in the temple following a facelift procedure. The hair bearing skin has been removed instead of the non-hair bearing skin. This should not have occurred with a typical facelift procedure.
As a result the patient cannot wear her hair up and the hairless area is very difficult to conceal. There is no easy surgical solution for this and the only option would be to perform hair transplantation on the hairless area.
With many people choosing to operations abroad, Mr Richards suggests the following checklist for anyone thinking of undergoing facial rejuvenation surgery:
About the Surgeon
- How many procedures do they perform each year?
- Ask to see at least 10 before and after pictures of previous patients
- Ask to see their audit data
- Check that they hold the qualification FRCS (Plast)
About the Hospital
- What are its infection rates for MRSA and C.diff?
- Ask to see their patient satisfaction surveys
- Ask for confirmation that their operating theatres have laminar airflow
Follow up after surgery
- Ask for information about when and how many follow up appointments there will be
- What is the policy if I need further surgery and will there be an additional cost?
Facial plastic surgery is more technical and sub-optimal results are harder to disguise than for some other types of cosmetic surgery. Mr Richards would therefore urge anyone considering this type of procedure to fully research it prior to going ahead.
