All the major companies which produce dermal fillers produce a range of products of varying thicknesses.

Generally, the thicker substances are used for deeper, more established lines where as the lighter dermal fillers are used for finer, more superficial lines on the face.

The thicker dermal fillers are firmer and offer more support to these areas but can cause lumpiness if they are used for very fine lines or if they are placed very close to the skin.

Your practitioner will assess each of the areas on your face and advice you as to the best type of dermal filler to use in each of these areas.

As a general rule, it’s worthwhile having a discussion with your practitioner about which range of dermal fillers they prefer to use and within this range, what grade or thickness of dermal filler they can use on the different areas.

Overall, dermal fillers are extremely effective in storing volume to the lips and the lines around the mouth and also to other areas of your face.

Experienced practitioners achieve excellent results with these treatments which give a natural rejuvenation to the face area.

There are a number of other dermal fillers all based on hyaluronic acid such as Teosyl which again are very popular and in effective treating facial lines at creasions in the lower part of the face.

The majority of dermal fillers are used to the area around the mouth to restore volume to the area which is presently youth but is lost slowly as the face ages.

Since Q-Med had developed the hyaluronic acid fillers, these substances based on hyaluronic acid have become the mainstay of dermal filler treatments in the United Kingdom. Q-Med was first to develop hyaluronic acid fillers; but since that time, other companies have developed other alternatives to the Q-Med range which include Restylane and Perlane.

These alternatives include the Juvederm range which is made by the company, which manufactures Botox, Allergan.

Juvederm fillers based on hyaluronic acid have become extremely popular in the United Kingdom over the last few years partly due to the active advertising campaign in the print and television media for them.

Hello, my name’s Adrian Richards, I’m a plastic and cosmetic surgeon based in the United Kingdom and I’m the surgical director of Aurora Clinics. Today I’m going to be showing you a procedure in which I insert a Permalip implant into a patient’s upper lip. This is a permanent silicone implant which I’ll show you.

So here I am, this patient’s actually having a face lift procedure at the same time but I’m just measuring the upper lip and then I just mark exactly where I’m going to make little incisions in the corner of the lip here. The next stage is really just to mark, this is the line where I want the Permalip implant to sit under. Just some local anaesthetic going in to numb the area. This lady’s had a general anaesthetic but 90% of the cases I do of Permalip are under local anaesthetic with the patient awake, it was just this patient was having another procedure so elected to have the Permalip inserted during this procedure. So that’s just the local anaesthetic going in, a bit like at the dentist. Just a tiny little incision in the corner of the mouth here, you see I’m just going through there. Again this will be painless with a local anaesthetic. Then the next stage is just to gently make a little tunnel in the lip here where I’m going to pass the Permalip implant through. This is the Permalip implant, she’s elected for the medium size one and you can see here, I’m just grabbing the lip implant and now I’m just going to gently pull it through into the upper lip. This is the technique just to pull it through the tunnel I’ve already made and you can see that sitting there very nicely in the middle. Then I just centralise it, just make sure it’s absolutely lying in the centre. Very important for the patient to massage this area, just to make sure that it’s centred in the first few days following surgery. The next stage is then to put some very small absorbable stitches in the corner of the mouth which I’m doing now, these don’t need to be removed, they fall out on their own.

Straight after the operation, it’s very important, we apply ice packs to the lips to limit any swelling. You’re normally swollen for about a week, no permanent sensation changes. The lips function normally, they’re just swollen for a week or so.

Here’s some results, as you can see, this lady’s had upper and lower Permalip implants and it gives you a much younger, more youthful looking, fuller lip. So it’s really quite a straightforward procedure and works very well.

So if you’d like any information about Permalip or any other form of plastic or cosmetic surgery, please contact us either via the website with is aurora-clincis.co.uk or by phoning us. So thank you very much for watching the video, I hope you’ve enjoyed it and we look forward to seeing you soon.

A leading plastic surgeon has launched a new procedure for permanent lip enhancement which has just recently been introduced to the UK. Adrian Richards, of Aurora, has introduced PermaLip™, a revolutionary silicone lip implant which mimics the contours of the lip and provides a natural-looking alternative to temporary lip fillers, which need constant top-ups.

According to Adrian Richards, leading plastic surgeon and member of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS):

“The arrival of Permalip™ is great news as it provides a viable and cost-effective alternative to fillers, which have to be topped up every four to six months and treatments can be painful. Permalip™ is a soft implant which gives very natural results, the procedure takes just 15 minutes under local anaesthetic and the implant is passed through a small incision in the lip which is sealed with a dissolvable suture. The patient can be up and around resuming normal activities within a couple of hours and variable swelling can occur for around a week or so following the procedure.”

Permalip™ is a patented, CE marked device designed exclusively for lip enhancement. Is manufactured by Eurosurgical (www.eurosurgical.co.uk) and comes in a variety of sizes. The implant cannot deflate or rupture and can be easily reversed if a patient wants to have it resized or removed entirely. The surface of the implant is non-porous, which minimises the chance of tissue adherence or in growth from surrounding lip tissue.

Says Adrian:

“The procedure is still very new to the UK but has been used in the United States where it has undergone extensive clinical tests. The cost is around £2,500, which, if a patient is having temporary lip fillers injected regularly at around £300, can be a cost effective and convenient solution in the long term.”

Aurora operates from a series of clinics and accredited hospitals covering areas including Princes Risborough, Northampton, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire and central London.
