Mild Single PIP Rupture

This patient had 250cc PIP implants inserted in 2008 and came to Aurora for removal and replacement in 2012.
The right breast had a rough texture to it, which just adds to the inconsistency found within PIP implants. It had a reasonable amount of gel bleed, but nothing unusual for the right hand side.
The left breast had quite a large split down the implant, so it was a standard PIP rupture, but it had yet to turn a dark shade of yellow, and there wasn’t really any of the thick white fluid we usually see after the silicone mixes with the bodily fluids. Despite the fact that the rupture appears in its infancy, the split itself was quite large, highlighting the unpredictable nature of PIP implants.
