Our expert Plastic Surgeon Adrian Richards is the Medical Director for The Private Clinic. Clinics are located in BirminghamBristolBuckinghamshireGlasgowLondon Harley StreetLeedsManchester and Northampton.

This surgery video is of a single implant rupture of old style PIPs. The in tact right hand side is skipped and we begin the video immediately with Mr Richards opening the left breast to remove the implant. Instantly we see the creamy fluid, synonymous with ruptured PIP implants oozing from the breast pocket. Mr Richards collects the fluid in a container to be sent off for analysis. The patient felt a difference in her implant, and also was suffering from swelling and illness, which are two very common symptoms of ruptured PIPs. She did not know that she had PIP implants as she was unable to source her previous operation records.

When comparing the implants after the surgery, Mr Richards states they are old style PIPs, and he knows this because the baseplate is a rougher texture than the newer style PIPs. Roughly 25% of patients with PIPs who come and have them replaced here at Aurora have at least one ruptured implant, with quite a considerable number of those patients have had both implants ruptured. PIPs are still out there in thousands of women, in the UK and abroad. If you know anyone with them, or have them yourself, come to Aurora Clinics for a free consultation.
