<itunes:summary>Inverted nipples affect up to 10% of the female population in the UK. This subject is often taboo and is not often discussed even between friends and family members. Nipple inversion is caused by shortening of the mammary ducts which attach deeply to the breast glands and superficially to the nipple. There are 3 grades of nipple inversion. Grade 1 is the mildest and is characterised by nipples which are usually mildly inverted or flat and evert spontaneously before re-inverting. Grade 1 nipple inversion often responds well to the nipplette suction device. Grade 2 nipple every occasionally and immediately re-invert whereas Grade 3 inverted nipples do not evert. In my experience Grade 2 and 3 inverted nipples do not tend to correct with the nipplette suction device. The most reliable form of surgery is division of the shortened milk ducts. I perform an average of 30 of these procedures a month with good results. The surgery is performed under Local Anaesthetic with minimal downtime. The major disadvantage of dividing the milk ducts is that you will not be able to breast feed following surgery. For more information on inverted nipple correction please visit our website aurora-clinics.co.uk or phone us confidentially on 01844 214362.
