    PIP Implants Replacement Surgery

    Intact PIP Implants are removed from this patient and replaced with Allergan silicone Implants by Plastic Surgeon Adrian Richards of Aurora clinics. As shown in this video, although the implants are intact, there is silicone gel bleed, because of the implant coating issues found in these PIP implants specifically, but luckily for this patient, no fluid or silicone nodes inside the capsule were found.

    So our patient today has got PIP implants. We’re going to replace these with Allergan implants. You can come and have a look.

     

    First stage I’m going to remove the scar here. It’s quite a wide scar, also quite a long scar. So I’m going to remove tha,t and then we’ll see what state these implants are in.

     

    I’ve removed a 270cc PIP implant. It’s got the normal silicone gel bleed on the outside. It is intact. This lady’s lucky again that her implant is intact, which is good. But still a lot of silicone gel bleed, which can be taken up the body. And as I always say, the implants feel rough and are very prone to rupture as we’ve seen by little weaknesses in the shells.

     

    What I’ll do now is I’ll wash everything out and put a new Allergan implant in.

     

    I’ve just removed this PIP implant. As you can see, it’s a 270cc implant. We’re keeping the serial numbers of all the implants so we can try and track down or identify which were the worst performing implants. But you can see it’s intact. As always, it’s very greasy to feel. So you’ve got quite a lot of silicone bleed, but the implant at least is intact, although it’s not in the greatest shape. I don’t know whether you can see all the dents in it, but at least it’s intact, which is good news for our patient today.

     

    So these are the implants on both sides. As you can see, this is the right one, and it is a PIP 270cc implant. And on the left, the same again. Now they are intact. These particular implants seem absolutely fine. As I’ve mentioned many times, they don’t feel like very good implants. They’re sort of quite firm and solid on the sides and prone to rupture, but at least they were intact in this lady.
