Facelift Surgery (Rhytidectomy)

The facelift (also spelt 'face lift' and scientifically known as a rhytidectomy) is one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures in the UK today. Thanks to growing media publicity about celebrities who have had the procedure, many patients are familiar with the concept of face lift surgery and now consider it an option as they get older and their face begins to lose its youthful shape.

Hello, my name is Adrian Richards. I’m a plastic surgeon. I’m the Surgical Director of Aurora Clinics, which is based in the south of England. In this video, I’m going to be talking a little bit about split earlobes and tribal earlobes, because they’re quite different. So I’m just going to give you a little update to try and clarify the difference between split earlobes and tribal earlobes, and then in subsequent videos I’m going to focus on each of these individually.

So what’s the difference? Well, a split earlobe occurs mostly in women, but it can occur in men, when a heavy earring has been pulled through the ear, and this leaves you a split earlobe, so a linear, like a line, split in the earlobe back down from the piercing. So that’s a split earlobe, relatively simple to correct under local anaesthetic and not all that expensive to correct, and I’ll talk about the process in the next video.

A tribal ear piercing is quite different. This is when the ear is stretched sequentially with a spacer. So from a small piercing the ear is stretched with a stretcher, and many people are coming forward now. The most common reason is because people feel they’re being discriminated against in the job market because of the appearance of their ears.

So that’s just a quick overview. If you’ve got a split earlobe, please watch the split earlobe video. If you’ve got a tribal earlobe, please watch the tribal earlobe video for more information.

Thanks for watching.
