Gynecomastia Before and After
(Results of Gynecomastia Surgery)
Prior to surgery, it is very important that you look at Gynecomastia before and after photos of previous cases your surgeon has treated for enlarged male breasts. This will help you to make an informed decision, get a better idea of the likely results of your Gynecomastia Surgery and assess the quality of your particular cosmetic surgeon’s work.
Why is it important to see Gynecomastia Before and After photos prior to surgery?
- It allows you to assess the amount of reduction in the gynecomastia following surgery.
- It enables you to see a variety of different styles of available treatments for gynecomastia.
What to look out for in Before and After photographs of different treatment styles:
In particular, look for the location and quality of the scars and whether you think they would be noticeable and you would be comfortable bare-chested. Different gynecomastia surgery techniques produce different patterns of scarring e.g.:
- Liposuction alone should produce minimal scars in the chest area.
- Liposuction with excision of breast tissue usually involves a semicircular scar below the brown area of the nipple where it meets your normal coloured skin.
- Liposuction, excision of breast tissue and removal liposuction normally creates a scar all the way around the edge of where the areola meets your normal coloured skin.
Also look carefully for any irregularities in the chest. These can occasionally occur following either liposuction or excisional techniques for Gynecomastia.
Ask to see Before and After photos from all angles
Generally we would advise that you see the results of the surgery from different angles, including:
- a full frontal photograph
- a ¾ photograph and
- a photograph from the side
Gynecomastia Surgery results:
- The aim of Gynecomastia Surgery is to improve your chest contour, with and without clothing. Both Liposuction and Excisional Gynecomastia Surgery generally provide very good results in this respect.
- Gynecomastia surgery is considered permanent unless you put on more weight.
- Liposuction techniques remove a proportion of the fat cells from your chest area. You do not develop more fat cells with time and the reason you put more weight on is because the fat cells swell.
- Once the fat cells have been removed from your chest area via either liposuction or excisional techniques, the Gynecomastia is unlikely to recur.
