Gynecomastia Surgery Cost
Gynecomastia Surgery cost is a factor which worries many men considering treatment for their enlarged male breasts. If your condition is particularly severe and having a significant effect on your standard of living, you may be eligible for NHS Gynecomastia treatment. However, with today’s economy, such funding is increasingly limited so private Gynecomastia Surgery is becoming common.
Can I get NHS Gynecomastia Surgery?
Although gynecomastia (also known as ‘male breasts’ or ‘man boobs’) is not life-threatening, it can have a significant effect on a person’s quality of life. Therefore, at one time, people with gynecomastia were treated by the NHS. However, owing to recent budget cuts, there is now more restriction on this type of treatment and in many areas of the UK non-life threatening conditions are no longer treated by the NHS.
Will Gynecomastia NHS treatment be available in your region?
The restrictions vary considerably between different health authorities. We would advise you to visit your GP, who will be able to put your case before the appropriate NHS board. They will then decide if you can receive treatment. In some regions, particularly if you have the support of your GP, gynecomastia is still available on the NHS.
If you are unfortunate enough to find that the NHS does not provide gynecomastia treatment in your area, your other option is to consult a private surgeon.
What are the advantages of private Gynecomastia Surgery?
Consulting a private surgeon does have advantages:
- You will be seen by an individual surgeon who will discuss your concerns with you and outline the options for treating your Gynecomastia.
- The same surgeon will perform the operation, giving you good continuity of care which is sometimes not available on the NHS.
- You will also have more ability to select the time of surgery that fits in with your lifestyle.
How much will private Gynecomastia Surgery cost?
The disadvantage of this approach is that it will incur some costs. The average price of having your gynecomastia corrected by surgery is from £4500 by liposuction and from £5400 for an excisional technique. These are guideline prices for Aurora clinics and the prices for this treatment with other surgeons in clinics through the United Kingdom may vary considerably.
What treatment and care is included in the cost?
The price of surgery should include:
- Unlimited consultations prior to Gynecomastia Surgery.
- The surgical procedure itself.
- Compression garments and any dressings required after the operation.
- Unlimited aftercare and follow up appointments and
- The ability to have any further surgery at no extra cost, which may be required if you are unhappy with the appearance of either your scars or your chest.
We would advise you to discuss these with your surgeon before agreeing to any surgical procedure to ensure that your surgical package includes all of these factors.
Hopefully you may be able to have your treatment on the NHS.
