I just finished an operating list in which I have performed inverted nipple correction on 8 patients.
Each of the ladies I’ve seen today has had inverted nipples since an early age and have been very aware and embarrassed about them during this time.
They all tell me similar stories that they felt embarrassed about the areas and have tried to conceal them. Many of them have found the nipple inversion has had an adverse effect on them socially and some of them have had not been able to go on holidays with their female friends and others had negative experiences in relations with their partners.
The interesting thing is, none of these women with inverted nipples has discussed it with anybody. Some have been to the GP to discuss the best way forward for them but the GPs did not know that there is a simple procedure to correct nipple inversion.
The fact that nipple inversion is not widely talked about adds to the fact that there’s a lack of knowledge that inversion is easily corrected.
The patients today had their nipple inversion treated under local anaesthetic within 30 minutes and have had minimal problems following this.
The operation is extremely simple and effective and the rate of nipple inversion recurring is extremely low. As one patient said to me today, “If I had had this procedure performed earlier in my life I think my life would have been different – perhaps I would have been naughtier!”
