Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are used to restore volume and soften lines and folds. The hyaluronic acid (HA) injected into the skin is used to restore our skin to its former youthful appearance by making it look firmer.

What are they?

Dermal fillers are used to plump out deep wrinkles and skin folds, as well as build up and sculpt facial contours. The filler can be either synthetic or based on natural collagen and they come in different thicknesses. Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance in the body and is used in many medical applications. The use of this filler will add to your natural supply to restore resilience. Dermal fillers tend to be classified as non-permanent but the effects should last 9-12 months.

What it can’t do

Dermal fillers cannot lift loose or sagging skin. This may need a MACS facelift to correct this and we offer a free consultation with one of our Aurora Surgeons to discuss this.

Types of filler

There are many different types of filler in use today but only a few have delivered consistently safe, effective long term results with minimal swelling or redness. Our various clinics use one or more of the following fillers:

Teosyl

The Teosyl range consists of three non-animal origin products offering patients immediate and long-lasting results with no preliminary testing.

Juvederm Ultra, Ultra Smile and Hydrate range

Juvederm Ultra is a range of smooth consistency gels which are injected to restore volume, fill in lines, wrinkles and folds and redefines lips. Ultra contains Lidocaine, a local anaesthetic which helps make the treatment process comfortable. Ultra is not granular which means that it is able to flow easily into the skin. This results in a smooth and natural appearance. Juvederm Ultra Smile is dedicated to the lips and mouth area and is selected to enhance lip volume, redefine lip shape and to treat vertical lip lines and depressions at the corner of the mouth. Juvederm Hydrate is clinically proven treatment to bring deep hydration to the face, neck, décolletage and hands. It has been specially formulated to be injected just under the surface of the skin to improve hydration, tone and elasticity.

Belotero

Is a new generation of hyaluronic acid that can be used to correct lines and give more volume to lips, cheeks or the outlines of the face. Belotero is a particularly soft gel that feels natural and smooth. It is also completely biocompatible and biodegradable which means there is reduced risk of allergic reaction and it degrades slowly in a perfectly natural way.

What’s involved?

As with all our treatments our Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner will take a medical history to make sure there are no reasons why you shouldn’t have this treatment .You will be asked to read and sign a consent form. For your personal comfort our clinician will apply an anaesthetic cream for 20 minutes or so prior to the injection. When the area has been anaesthetised, the filler is carefully injected into the skin. The effects are immediate and you can probably go straight back to work afterwards if you choose. Application depends upon site and depth of the wrinkles to be treated and will be injected into different levels of the skin. The treatment session lasts about 30-60 minutes. Following your treatment our Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner will give you a post treatment advice sheet so that you gain the maximum effect from your treatment.

Possible side effects

You may experience some temporary redness and swelling after your treatment which can be disguised with concealer make-up. In very rare cases, you may develop an allergic reaction to a filler but your clinician will discuss this fully with you prior to your treatment.

Your Results

All dermal fillers produce immediate results, although none are completely permanent and may last 9-12 months. You will need to have the treatment repeated if you want to maintain your results.
