Solid and semi-solid implants are available with which to sculpt the
cheek into the desired structure. A surgeon will make a small incision in a predetermined area of the cheek and create a pocket into which the implant will be placed. The incision is then sutured and dressed.
How long does
surgery take?
Cheek implant surgery normally takes 1.5 hours to 2 hours to complete, but will vary depending upon the extent of re-shaping required. A general anaesthetic and overnight hospital stay is recommended.
What is the
recovery time?
Patients make a partial recovery within a day or so and can return to work. Full recovery and removal of dressing takes place 1 – 2 weeks after surgery.
How long will it last?
Cheek implants are designed to last indefinitely.
Are there any
side effects?
Bruising and swelling of the cheeks and in the area around the eyes is to be expected after surgery, as is nauseousness from general anaesthetic.
