Vaginal Tightening
(Vaginoplasty)
Vaginal tightening is a cosmetic procedure that some women choose to undergo in order to tighten their vagina.
THE PROBLEM
- Pregnancy and the natural delivery of a baby can stretch a woman's vagina beyond its normal width during the birth.
- Although the vagina is made of strong muscles, it may or may not return to its previous shape, instead staying stretched.
- The problem is exacerbated by having multiple children delivered vaginally.
- For millions of women throughout the world and their partners this is a major problem.
- Many women and men complain about a lack of sexual satisfaction due to a lack of friction during sexual intercourse, which is due to the woman's vagina failing to return to its pre-pregnancy size.
- Although women who have had children are most likely to undergo this procedure, many women who have not had children elect for this surgery, feeling that their vaginas are not as tight as they could be.
- Sometimes physical exams do show abnormalities in size that can be corrected by vaginal tightening surgery.
WHAT IS VAGINAL TIGHTENING?
- Vaginal tightening, sometimes called vaginoplasty, involves removal of some of the vaginal lining and surgical tightening of its muscles and surrounding tissues.
WHAT IS INVOLVED?
- Before surgery, you will need to have a consultation with the plastic surgeon.
- You will be asked for your complete medical history, go over the pros and cons of the procedure, and learn what to expect after the surgery has taken place.
- On the day of the surgery, you will be placed under general anaesthesia and the surgery will begin.
- The surgeon will use either a scalpel or a laser to make a small incision into the rear floor of your vaginal canal and excise a small portion of your vaginal wall.
- Once that is done, the surgeon will close up the two sides of the incision, resulting in a tighter vagina.
- The surgery will take approximately 1 to 2 hours to complete and may be done either as an outpatient procedure or may require an overnight stay.
YOUR RECOVERY
- Most women complain about mild pain and some minor bleeding.
- You will be prescribed pain medications to help alleviate the soreness.
- Recovery from vaginoplasty typically takes between 1 and 2 weeks, depending on the health and age of the woman undergoing the procedure.
- You will need to refrain from vigorous exercise and sexual activity for 6 weeks following the surgery.
YOUR RESULTS
- After undergoing vaginal tightening, you and your partner should notice an increased amount of friction during sexual intercourse.
- You can expect the results to last unless you have another child delivered naturally.
