Dermal Fillers |
 |
 |
|
|
| What are they? |
- Dermal fillers are used to plump out deep wrinkles and skin folds, as well as build up and sculpt facial contours
- The filler can be either synthetic or based on natural collagen
|
What it can’t do
|
- Dermal fillers can not lift loose or sagging skin, correct raised or reddened scars or remove extensive wrinkling
- See MASC lift, scar revision amd laser skin resurfacing for addressing these
|
| Types of filler |
- There are many different types of filler in use today but only a few have delivered consistently safe, effective long term results with minimal swelling or redness
- The Gatehouse Clinic currently use the following fillers:
Restylane Perlane
- Restylane Perlane is the brand name for a non-animal based hyaluronic acid
- Hyaluronic acid is found naturally in the connective tissue of skin
- Restylane Perlane is the most popular dermal filler used to contour the face
- The product comes in three formulations, and the product used will depend on your skin type and the area to be contoured or filled.
- The results from Restylane Perlane are immediate and will last approximately six to eight months
Teosyl
- The Teosyl range consists of three non-animal origin products offering patients immediate and long-lasting results with no preliminary testing
- Application depends upon site and depth of the wrinkles to be treated and will be injected into different levels of the skin
- The treatment session lasts about 30 minutes. For the comfort of the patient and depending on the zone to be treated, a local anaesthetic or anesthetising cream may be applied
|
| What’s involved? |
- As with all injections, you will feel some discomfort from the needle, although your clinician will treat the area first with anaesthetic cream to be kept to a minimum
- When the area has been anaesthetised, the filler is carefully injected into the skin
- The effects are immediate and you can probably go straight back to work afterwards if you choose
|
| Possible side effects |
- You may experience some temporary redness and swelling after your treatment which can be disguised with concealer make-up
- In very rare cases, you may develop an allergic reaction to a filler but your clinician will discuss this fully with you prior to your treatment
