Breast Enlargement Surgery – Will I be able to feed after surgery?
Hello. My name is Adrian Richards. I’m a consultant plastic surgeon working with Aurora Clinics. I’m just going to answer a quick question today which I’m often asked by my patients who are considering bilateral breast augmentation. And that question is, “Will I be able to breast feed after I have a breast augmentation procedure?”
So the important thing to remember is that breast implants are always placed behind the breast tissue. So whether they’re behind the muscle or in front of the muscle, they are always behind the breast tissue. That means that the breast tissue itself is undisturbed, unlike some operations like breast reduction and uplifts where the breast tissue can be disturbed. So the ducts and the glands that secrete the milk and their connection to the nipple are undisturbed after breast augmentation surgery. So yes, you will be able to breast feed, and yes, it is safe to breastfeed your child following a breast augmentation.
Thank you. This is Adrian Richards, and if you’d like any more information about breast augmentation or any other procedures, please either e-mail us or phone us on 01844 214362.
