Combining Microdermabrasion & Skin Peels
My name is Fleur Nicholls. I’m the Medical Aesthetician here at Aurora Clinics. I’m going to be talking to you today about how we can combine microdermabrasion and skin peels to create more optimum results.
Microdermabrasion is a form of mechanical exfoliation using fine crystals to abrade the top layer of dead skin cells off and producing the fresher new ones underneath. By doing this, it prepares the skin more effectively to then follow on with a skin peel. By combining the two, we have found that sometimes we have needed less skin peels to create the optimum results.
We begin the treatment with a microdermabrasion. Within a couple of weeks, you’ll return to have a skin peel and the visual results for our patients are quicker. This is then followed on within a month later approximately with another microdermabrasion, a fortnight later a skin peel. We’ve been getting some fantastic results just from those four treatments.
Again, these treatments can be used for all skin types, for anti-aging, so fine lines, etc., problematic skins, congestion, pigmentation. After the microdermabrasion, you would expect the skin to be slightly pink, but instantly it would look fresher and brighter. After the skin peel, you will notice that the skin will seem fresher. Within a couple of days, you may start to notice some peeling and shedding. But we have found that this is less so than when we have begun with a microdermabrasion as we’ve initially taken off those first layers. The skin peel can actually penetrate into the skin deeper and produce the collagen and the elastin and the process of bringing up those fresh new cells, which is what we want.
The microdermabrasion will help clear and decongest quicker than a skin peel. The combination of the two, they work very well alongside each other and they complement each other, but also the preparation with the microdermabrasion helps the skin peel work better. We have been finding that we can achieve better results in a quicker time, which makes it more cost effective and obviously keeps our patients happier.
