Arm Reduction Surgery – Brachioplasty
Hello. My name is Adrian Richards. I’m the Surgical Director of Aurora Clinics, based here in the United Kingdom. Today I’m going to be taking you through an operation known as a brachioplasty operation or an arm reduction procedure. This is done really to remove excess skin from the inner aspect of the arms. The patient we’re going to be operating on today has lost seven stone in weight and during that time, as the subcutaneous fat underneath the skin has shrunken away, the skin has become looser and looser. So I’ll be taking you through each stage of this procedure in this short video.
So here you can see this lady has lost a significant amount of weight and has the characteristic excess skin hanging down from the lower inner aspect of the arm there. She is normal weight, and my aim is to remove that excess area. You can see here the area between my blue marks is the area of skin I’m going to remove, and I’m going to advance that posterior skin forwards in an L-shaped fashion.
You see here I am just gently dissecting the skin off the deep, underlying tissues. It’s very important to preserve this nerve. This is a sensory nerve to the lower part of the arm, and I always try and preserve this to preserve sensation.
Here’s the lower part of the tissue just before it’s removed. Then I just put some stitches in to hold everything. Here’s the tissue removed. You can see, here it is, really quite a lot of tissue. And here’s the closure, all with absorbable stitches.
So thank you very much for watching the video. I hope you found it useful and informative. If you’d like any more information about this or any other procedure, please feel free to contact us either via our website or by phoning us directly. Thank you.
