Breast Reduction – The Surgery
Hello. My name is Adrian Richards. I’m the Surgical Director of Aurora Clinics, and I’m a cosmetic and plastic surgeon based here in the United Kingdom. Today I’m going to be talking you through an operation I did recently on a lady who required a breast augmentation. She’s generally very fit and healthy, in her early 30s, and, as you can see, is quite heavy busted with her bust being slightly larger on the right side.
This is her in her operation. You can see that’s where I’m going to move the nipple to. That’s the area I’m going to remove, the area I’m showing you just here, that’s the area that’s going to be removed and the nipple’s going to be elevated.
This is the tissue I’ve removed. This is actually in the operation. You can see here is the tissue I’ve removed, which in this case was 600 grams. This is what remains, and you can see that I bring the tissue together. That’s the pedicle on which the nipple’s kept attached with the nerves and the blood supply. You can see there the blood will come in from the bottom to the nipple, and this is where the nerves come in. By keeping the nerves intact, I’m preserving the sensation to the nipple. This is how everything’s going to look when it’s closed with the nipple going up to that new position.
This is just with everything closed. I’ve sewn everything with absorbable stitches, and, as I said, the breast will be much smaller, probably a C cup.
This is with the Micropore tape on at the end so the patient will be up and about the next day, home, and the stitches, which are absorbable, will be trimmed in one week.
