Breast Reduction Surgery at Aurora Clinics
Hello, my name is Adrian Richards. I’m a consultant plastic surgeon and the Surgical Director of Aurora Clinics. In this video, I’m going to be taking you through a breast reduction procedure I performed earlier today. Our patient is generally fit and healthy. She’s lost some weight, and she’s got quite a lot of descent of her breasts and loose breast tissue. She’d like to be as small as possible. So I’ll be taking you through each stage of the operation in this video.
This is the smaller right side. This is the area here I’m going to remove, all of this tissue here. The nipple is going to be kept attached here by this bridge of tissue, which is called the pedicle, and rotated up there. This is the new hole for the nipple. So essentially the nipple, I’m going to cut around the nipple now, make it a little bit smaller, the areola, rotate the nipple up to that new position, remove this tissue and all this lower tissue down here, all this tissue here.
Then that point is going to be sewn to that point, and that point is going to be sewn to that point. Also, those two points will be stitched down the bottom there. So we end up with a breast like that. So I’ll show you what everything looks like after I’ve removed that lower tissue.
So this is with the tissue removed. This is the bridge of tissue going to the nipple, which I’m going to move up there. So the nipple is going to go up there, and then the skin is going to go across there.
This is the tissue I’ve removed. Here, this is the tissue I’ve removed from below the breast, up here above the nipple, which we’re going to have sent off to laboratory. Then nipple is going to be rotated into that new position. You’ll see in a minute I’m going to sew everything in that new position like that.
So this is it after I’ve sewn everything up with absorbable stitches. You can see these are the ends of the absorbable stitches here, going around the nipple, and then there’s one here going all the way along to here. Then there’s one here running along the vertical limb. So the scarring is around the nipple here and then here, and I think you can see that this side is much smaller than this side, with the nipple in a much higher position now. This side, which I’m just about to do, is much lower.
Here we are at the end of the operation. You can see the Micropore tape being put on. We got very good breast symmetry. The nipples on both sides are nice and pink, which is a good sign that they’ve got good blood supply. The incisions around the nipples, down and then along. You can still see a little bit of where the lady was wearing a bikini before the operation, and I’ve removed most of that skin. As you can see, both sides, the bikini marks are nice and symmetrical. I think we’re going to get nice results. She wanted to be small, so I think she’s probably going to end up as a B-cup after her surgery.
