Split Earlobe Correction
Hello. My name is Adrian Richards, and today I’m going to be talking you through an operation I did on a young gentleman who had a very large split in his earlobe. This had been created by a piercing which he’d dilated to a diameter 45 millimetres, that’s 4.5 centimetres.
Here you can see me, I’ve marked out the rent at the back and at the front. The blue lines are where I am going to cut to rotate the back of that earlobe forward. He was very unhappy about the appearance of the rent in the earlobe as he was having difficulty with job interviews.
You can see here, this is the split with me holding it apart with skin hooks.
The first stage is gently cut along the anterior part of the incision with my 11 blade, which is a straight blade which I find very useful for cutting through the earlobe. Here I am cutting through the back. So I am removing the whole rent.
Here I am just completing at the front the removal. I put local anaesthetic in.
Here you can see me moving the earlobe forward. That’s how I am going to repair it, really flat to the scalp.
Here I’ve repaired it. I’ve done some deep stitches holding the earlobe together. Here you can see me just about putting some skin stitches in the ear. They’re very fine Prolene stitches which will need to be removed.
This is the final appearance with the stitch line here with the Prolene stitches in place. Again, you can see it from a slightly different angle with stitches on the back as well. These stitches will be removed in seven days.
Thank you very much for looking at the video. I hope you found it useful. I think this is a topic we’re going to see more and more cases coming to us for repair of these type of split earlobes. Normally, it is very successful, and I hope this has been useful in showing you the technique. Thank you for watching.
