Removal of Intra-Dermal Naevi by Curettage

Removal of Intra-dermal Naevi by Curettage

Hello. My name is Adrian Richards, and in this video I’m going to be taking you through a technique which I think is very useful for removing relatively superficial lesions from the neck and torso.

The instrument I find the best for use in this technique is a special curette made by Stiefel. It comes in two sizes, the four millimetre and the seven millimetre. It’s very sharp, and I find it ideal for removing superficial lesions, such as seborrheic keratosis and superficial intra-dermal naevi.

Here you can see I’m just prepping the skin with aqueous chlorhexidine. This is an antiseptic lotion which reduces the risk of any infection and kills any surface bugs. Here I am just removing the lesion with my curette. You can see that I’m just essentially scraping it off with this special tool which is round and has a very sharp side which just goes under the lesion and removes it. You can see I’m just paying attention to the lower, the base of the area here just to remove any pigment and hair cells from the bottom there to reduce the risk of the lesion coming back.

That’s it completely removed. Then I tend to dress them with brown Micropore tape and Kaltostat. This helps scab formation and also basically stops the area bleeding.

Here I am just removing another lesion. I actually removed five in this lady. Again, here on the neck, the same technique. Smaller lesions here, removing them from the skin. You can see they’re coming off very nicely there, and here I am just dressing them.
