Breast Enlargement Surgery – Terri’s Testimonial Prior to Surgery
Hello. My name is Adrian Richards. I’m the Surgical Director of Aurora Clinics based here in the United Kingdom, and I am a plastic and cosmetic surgeon. Today I’m going to be taking you through an operation I recently performed on Terri who had a breast augmentation. Terri’s very kindly allowed us to have a look at her procedure. Initially, we talked to her just before the procedure. We should see footage of the procedure itself, and then we’ll see her immediately afterwards, the following morning, and then some weeks following the procedure. So thank you to Terri for allowing us to show this footage.
Terri 10 minutes before her operation
Q: Why did you decide to have this operation?
Terri: I’ve never been big anyway. When I say big, I’ve never been small. I’ve sort of been between a B, maybe a small C before I had kids. Then when I had my children, I lost all that firmness and roundness. I’m now I think a small B because I wear size C cup bras, but I also wear chicken filets in them. So I know I’m not a C because I don’t fill it. I decided to have it done basically because I just wanted a bit more of a womanly figure. I feel, even though in a sense I’m going to have fake boobs, I actually feel more fake with the filets in wearing clothes. And they don’t fill me out how I want. So I looked on MyBreast site and spoke to someone. They advised Adrian Richards as a surgeon, and then I found that he works for Aurora. This is where I went to meet him and he was just brilliant, straightaway. He made me feel so comfortable. He still does make me feel so comfortable. He’s such a gentleman. I was telling my husband he always asks, “Can I touch you here? Can I move you there?” He doesn’t just order you around. So that’s basically why I chose to have them. I chose to go, because obviously it’s a once in a lifetime thing and the money I’m spending, I chose to go nice and well, bigger than I was going to.
Q: Good. Now you’ve been admitted into hospital, how are you feeling at the moment?
Terri: Hopefully the tablets that they gave to relax me have started to help. I couldn’t sleep last night. I’ve actually been fine. Since I’ve booked it, which was months and months ago, I’ve actually been fine and it only hit me yesterday and I was just on a high all day. I couldn’t sleep properly last night. And then I’ve come in today and all the staff’s been brilliant which has helped. I do still feel nervous, but I’m really, really excited just to see what they’re like and be able to go out weeks . . .
Q: All your different emotions . . .
Terri: Yeah. I said to my husband that I feel a bit like all of the emotions you get just before you have a child. I’m sitting here thinking, oh, my God, what are they going to look like? I hope they’re okay. I hope I’m not in too much pain. It’s just such a massive change for me, but yeah, I’m very happy and I’m very excited. And everyone here helps with that.
Q: That’s very good. So good teamwork as well.
Terri: Definitely.
Q: That’s good. We’ll be sending for you in about ten minutes, and then we’ll take you down to theatre.
Terri: Okay, lovely. Thank you.
Here we can see the pictures of Terri before the operation. We see the left breast is slightly larger than the right and she’s lost volume in the upper part of the breast since the birth of her children and she’s concave in that area.
We can see that from the side pictures. The nipples are pointing up, so no significant breast ptosis. There’s loss of volume in the top.
This is actually in the operation. I’ve created the pocket, and you can see that I’m just inflating, putting an inflatable sizer into the pocket. This is essentially an inflatable implant, which I’m just blowing up a little bit here to the desired volume.
You can see this gives me really good flexibility so I can check the optimum size for Terri. You can see here with the inflatable temporary implant in the right and not in the left.
That’s my five centimetre incision. Here I am just putting in some gentamicin antibiotics to lie around the implant to reduce the risk of infection.
Here’s the implant, which is the latest cohesive gel implant which I’m inserting.
Here it is inserted. I’m just checking that everything looks good and symmetrical. You can see the difference really between the two sides there. Again, I’m going to sew that incision up with absorbable stitches as you’ll see in a minute.
Here we are both sides are completed. Incisions are sewn up, and here from the top we can see the operation completed.
2 hours following surgery
Terri: I’m feeling really happy. Adrian did a brilliant job on my breasts. It is exactly what I wanted. They’re a tiny bit swollen, and I understand it’ll get more swollen over the next couple of days. I’ll just show quickly . . .
Q: How long is it after the operation?
Terri: Oh, about a couple of hours I think. Couple of hours or so. Move my hair out of the way. I still feel a bit woozy on the drugs but otherwise brilliant. No pain at the moment. I still have my nipple sensation. I can feel it which is brilliant. As you can see, they’re a very nice size. I think this one’s slightly up here. But yeah, I’m very, very happy. Definitely.
