Terri’s Breast Enlargement Diary – Part 2
Hello. My name is Adrian Richards. I’m the Surgical Director of Aurora Clinics based here in the United Kingdom, and I am a plastic and cosmetic surgeon. Today I’m going to be taking you through an operation I recently performed on Terri who had a breast augmentation. Terri’s very kindly allowed us to have a look at her procedure. Initially we talked to her just before the procedure, we should see footage of the procedure itself, and then we’ll see her immediately afterwards, the following morning, and then some weeks following the procedure. So thank you to Terry for allowing us to show this footage.
Terri 10 minutes before her operation
Q: Why did you decide to have this operation?
Terri: I’ve never been big anyway. When I say big, I’ve never been small. I’ve sort of been between a B, maybe a small C before I had kids. Then when I had my children, I lost all that firmness and roundness. I’m now I think a small B, because I wear size C cup bras but I also wear chicken fillets in them so I know I’m not a C because I don’t fill it. I decided to have it done basically because I just wanted a bit more of a womanly figure. I feel, even though in a sense, I’m going to have fake boobs, I actually feel more fake with the fillets in wearing clothes. And they don’t fill me out how I want.
So I looked on my breast site and found . . . spoke to someone and they advised Adrian Richards as a surgeon, and I found that he works for Aurora. This is where I went to meet him, and he was just brilliant. Straightaway, he made me feel so comfortable. He still does make me feel so comfortable. He’s such a gentleman. I was telling my husband he always asks, “Can I touch you here? Can I move you there?” He doesn’t just order you around. So that’s basically why I chose to have them. I chose to go, because obviously it’s a once in a lifetime thing and the money I’m spending, I chose to go nice and well bigger than I was going to.
Q: Good. Now you’ve been admitted into hospital. How are you feeling at the moment?
Terri: Well hopefully, the tablets that they gave to relax me have started to help. I couldn’t sleep last night. I’ve actually been fine. Since I’ve booked it, which was months and months ago, I’ve actually been fine and it only hit me yesterday and I was just on a high all day. I couldn’t sleep properly last night. And then I’ve come in today and all the staff’s been brilliant which has helped. I do still feel nervous, but I’m really, really excited just to see what they’re like and be able to go out weeks . . .
Q: All your different emotions and . . .
Terri: Yeah. I said to my husband that I feel a bit like all the emotions you get just before you have a child. I’m sitting here thinking, “Oh, my God. What are they going to look like? I hope they’re okay. I hope I’m not in too much pain.” It’s just such a massive change for me, but yeah, I’m very happy and I’m very excited. And everyone here helps with that.
Q: That’s very good. So good teamwork as well.
Terri: Yeah, definitely.
Q: That’s good. We’ll be sending for you in about ten minutes, and then we’ll take you down to theatre.
Terri: Okay, lovely. Thank you.
Two Hours Following Surgery
Terri: I’m feeling really happy. Adrian did a brilliant job on my breasts. It’s exactly what I wanted. They’re a tiny bit swollen, and I understand it’ll get more swollen over the next couple of days. I’ll just show quickly . . .
Q: How long is it after the operation?
Terri: Oh, about a couple of hours I think. Couple of hours or so. Move my hair out of the way. I still feel a bit woozy on the drugs but otherwise brilliant. No pain at the moment. I still have my nipple sensation. I can feel it, which is brilliant. As you can see, they’re a very nice size. I think it’s swollen slightly up here. But yeah, I’m very, very happy. Very, very happy, definitely.
Q: Brilliant.
Terri the morning after surgery
Terri: It’s the morning after the surgery. I’ve had a brilliant night. I was sort of on and off with sleep. I sat myself up in the bed, because obviously it helps with the bruising, the pressure, and everything. I wasn’t in any pain even when the painkillers wore off. I had a slight pulling sensation underneath where the stitches are, but in no pain at all. I actually feel really good. I’ve got dressed already, and I managed to brush my teeth and brush my hair and put a bit of makeup on. So I just feel amazing. I’m really, really happy. I’m happy with the staff. Adrian Richards is absolutely brilliant. Yeah, I have a brilliant experience. Really, really happy.
Terri: It’s three weeks yesterday since my operation with Adrian. I had a brilliant Christmas. I can honestly say it is the best experience I’ve ever been through. There wasn’t any pain at all. I thought there would be a bit of pain, but there wasn’t. It was more uncomfortableness that I’ve had to deal with. I’m fine now. I’m absolutely fine. I still can’t sleep on my front, but I think that will come with time anyway, and I’m more worried about causing damage. I can sleep on my side. It takes me a while to get comfortable, because I’m not used to having breasts so I have to sort of lift them a bit and get comfortable. My nipples are really sensitive now but that’s normal. I’ve been told that will go within the next four weeks or so. One of my nipples was a bit numb to start off with, but now it’s gone the other way and they’re both sensitive. I’m so glad that there’s just feeling. That’s all I was worried about. The only uncomfortableness I . . . because most of the time I was on tablets so you don’t feel anything. When I was coming off of them, the only uncomfortableness I felt was getting out of bed. All the other time I was fine. It was just in the morning I’d get out of bed and have to hold my boobs because I could feel the pulling. After I was up for a minute, that subsided and I was fine. Also the moving of my arms, I can move my arms everywhere now. I’ve only just been able to move them properly for about a week and a half. So pretty quick I could start moving them. Before that, it was just very restricted, so my husband had to wash my hair.
But I’m back at college now. I’m cooking. I haven’t Hoovered or anything too . . . I haven’t used anything too heavy. Everything’s fine. Everything’s great. I’ve loved my experience. I would do the whole experience again. Do it all again just for the experience. I’m so much more confident. Every bit of clothing I put on I feel so much more womanly and I feel like how I’ve always wanted to feel and I love it. Adrian really, really is brilliant. He has been the best surgeon there could be. I am so happy that I chose him to do this for me. Yeah, very, very happy.
