Male Breast Reduction Question:Your Questions Answered by the Surgeons at Aurora Clinics

Hi there, I am 16 years old and had male breast reduction (gynecomastia) surgery 3 weeks ago. Although I can see my chest has definitely flattened, unfortunately I still have a degree of puffiness around the nipple. I know this may seem pedantic, but it matters to me.

Originally my surgeon told me I was going to have areola reduction coupled with the gynecomastia operation. But on the day of my surgery he told me that he had decided against the dual operation and instead just performed the gynecomastia operation (via inferior incision).

Though I am happy with my flatter chest, the areolae size still bothers me (approximately 1.25 inches in diameter). Is this something that will reduce as my chest heals?

Although you didn’t perform my surgery, I would really appreciate a second opinion. I had hoped that I would be 100% happy with my chest, but alas this is not the case. Thank you for your time.

Male Breast Reduction Answer:

Thank you very much for sending us your email. In answer to your question, I do think it is possible that your areolae will continue to decrease in diameter as your chest heals.

However, I must add that at 3 weeks following male breast reduction it is really too early to say what the final outcome will be. I think the best way forward for you is to leave it at least 2 months following surgery to assess the final result. At that stage, if you are still unhappy with your result, I think it would definitely be worthwhile writing down your concerns and discussing them with the surgeon who carried out your procedure.

Very best wishes with your recovery. I hope your chest continues to heal and you are happy with your final result. If there is anything else we can help you with in the mean time, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
