Adrian Richards talks about a recent Body Lift Operation
Thinking about Body Lift surgery? Below is a guest post on the procedure, written by Aurora Plastic Surgeon Adrian Richards.
Hello, my name’s Adrian Richards. I’m a Plastic Surgeon and the Surgical Director of Aurora Clinics.
Today I’m going to be talking you through an operation I recently did on a very nice lady who had lost a significant amount of weight. Really just by willpower alone, she’d lost 97kgs.
She had quite a lot of excess in the abdominal region caused by folds in the skin. I performed an extended abdominoplasty to remove all of the excess skin in that area.
The first stage was really just to cut around the tummy button. The tummy button has its own blood supply and is on a ‘stalk’, so I was able to shorten it to give a nice natural curve to the tummy button area.
Next I elevated the excess skin and divided it in the middle, as I like to remove the skin in two parts. I divided it from the lower incision right up to the tummy button.
In this case, there was quite a lot of skin, much more than is usually found in these cases. I pulled the skin down, and removed the excess from either side, making sure to keep both sides symmetrical.
The next stage was to bring the tummy button up through a hole I’d created specially for it and sew it in with absorbable stitches.
Around 30cm of skin was removed vertically – a very significant amount. The lady had really lost so much weight and it was almost as if the skin didn’t fit her adequately now.
In total, the skin I removed weighed almost three kilos.
