Global Plastic Surgery trends reported

The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, which is the largest worldwide organisation of its kind, has released its findings in to the most popular surgeries and treatments throughout the world.

They invited 20,000 registered plastic surgeons from countries all over the world to participate in the survey, entitled Global Study of Aesthetic/Cosmetic Surgery Procedures Performed. It’’s the third such survey, which seeks to uncover global trends.

Unlike here, where breast augmentations account for the highest number of procedures performed, the global top spot goes to lipoplasty (liposuction) – a sizeable 19.9% of all surgeries are for fat removal.

Second is breast augmentation, accounting for 18.9% of all surgeries. As well as here in the UK this operation is also most popular in the US. Next is eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), at 11%. Abdominoplasty and rhinoplasty (surgery on the stomach and the nose) are next, accounting for 8.7% and 7.5% respectively.

After that it is breast lift then breast reduction surgery, with facelifts the eight most popular with 4.8%. After that is male breast reduction surgery, accounting for 2.7% of all procedures, followed by otoplasty (ear correction) at 2.6%.
