Is there any treatment to remove scars which have resulted from folliculitis?

Question:

I have been diagnosed with folliculitis which has left scarring on both of my calves.

Is there any treatment for this as it is making me quite depressed. I also have keloid scarring which has resulted from mole removal surgery.

I am 36, white and female. I look forward to your reply.

Answer:

Thank you very much for your email.

I am sorry that you have scarring which has occurred from folliculitis. Unfortunately this is a long-standing condition which leaves a lot of inflammation and can cause scarred regions.

Generally with folliculitis, we would recommend that you visit a dermatologist who will recommend the best way of reducing this inflammation and provide a method for settling down the lumpy scars which have developed as a by-product of mole removal surgery.

If you would like to see one of our dermatologists, we would recommend Alex Chambers, who is based in London and at our clinic in Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire.
