PIP Implant Rupture
Visit the Aurora Clinics website for the latest news on PIP breast implants.
Our patient in this video had asymmetrical breasts with 290cc on the right and 310cc PIP implants on the left inserted in 2005. An ultra sound scan has shown that the left implant might be ruptured. The patient has come to have her PIP implants removed, and will be receiving high quality Nagor implants to replace the below par PIPs.
Mr Adrian Richards introduces the video with this information, and then gets straight onto the operation. The right implant which was removed first was in tact, with just the basic deflation and gel bleed which is the best case scenario with PIP implants. The deflation and gel bleed causes the implants to lose considerable volume, which is not good for the patient, so as a “best case scenario” it still isn’t ideal. Mr Richards then uses an inflatable implant and inflates the breast to 360cc which he believes is a better fit for the patient.
The left breast was opened up, and Mr Richards was greeted with the creamy fluid that is very characteristic of a PIP implant rupture. Using a small container to catch the fluid in, he drains the breast before removing the implant, and gets out the sucker device to properly clean out the pocket. This immediately signifies that the ultra sound was correct and the implant is indeed ruptured, and Mr Richards could even see that the implant was ruptured before he even removed it. Upon removal Mr Richards analyses the ruptured implant, and notices it is a very characteristic PIP rupture, with it originating around the base plate.
