This surgery video is of a patient who has stretched earlobes, and one of them has split so they have come to us today for a unilateral earlobe repair. Their earlobe became damaged following an incident playing football. It didn’t split straight away, but after a short while it did, as the earlobe began to rupture.
The surgery starts, with the injection of local anaesthetic into the earlobe to numb the area before the surgery begins. The split area of the ear is drawn around, then cut out, leaving exposed underlying tissue which can be sewn together. Our patient, when asked if it hurts, responds saying he can feel gentle tugging, but no pain, although he can hear it which is quite an odd sensation.
Before the procedure our patient was much more excited than nervous, as he has wanted it doing for a few months, since February, which is around four months.
He had previously seen a video of the procedure so he knew exactly what to expect. When googling the procedure he was surprised how vague some websites were.
We see the ear being stitched up, it is very quick. each ear takes a maximum of 15 minutes. He says he feels comfortable, and is happy as it is being done.
