Our expert Plastic Surgeon Adrian Richards is the Medical Director for The Private Clinic. Clinics are located in Birmingham, Bristol, Buckinghamshire, Glasgow, London Harley Street, Leeds, Manchester and Northampton.
This video shows a tribal earlobe being repaired. Mr. Richards does a voiceover throughout the video to explain each process in detail, as usually when it comes to local anaesthetic procedures such as this, he prefers to converse with the patient to keep them more relaxed with discussions about themselves, so they don’t focus on what is going on too much. Obviously it is much harder to keep their mind off the surgery when he is talking through what he is doing for the benefit of the camera and the audience.
The video begins with Mr. Richards making the markings on the earlobe, and as we can hear him say on the video, this is very important, as the markings will be different on each person, based on the size of their stretch, the amount of spare earlobe, and the actual shape of the ear.
Next it is the local anaesthetic, and this will be the only part of the surgery that will be painful for the patient.
Next up is the cutting of the ear. The section within the markings is removed, which bleeds quite a lot. Mr. Richards explains why this is, whilst he cauterizes the blood vessels. This burns them shut and stops them from bleeding.
Mr. Richards talks through the stitching, explaining his loops and knots, as he is performing it. This runs out the rest of the video, but just before we finish, we see the final results, and also the bit of ear that was removed is shown to the patient.
