Worrying rise of US Plastic Surgery black market

A worrying trend for plastic surgery on the black market is on the rise in the US, and it’’s one that has unfortunately already claimed lives.

With an increasing quest for perfection it seems that some people are seeking surgery without the money needed to finance such operations. As a result there has been a recent influx of rogue surgeons who are not qualified to undertake such procedures.

Whether through desperation or a misguided awareness of the risks it’’s been reported that some men and women have been duped in to believing these cowboy doctors, with sometimes fatal results.

The most recent cases in the US have been of botched bottom implants – the operation where silicone is injected in to the buttocks. Instead, other fillings have been used, shockingly in some cases even cement. Tragically, one young woman in Missouri lost her life this week as the result of such an operation.

Other operations that have ended the same way have included breast implants and liposuction.

Thankfully, such a black market does not seem to exist here in the UK though such practices are a stark reminder of how important it is to check the credentials of your plastic surgeon.

If the price of a procedure seems too good to be true then there is a very good chance that it will be. Even if a doctor seems legitimate you should nonetheless ask to see their qualifications – if they are bona fide they will have no problems in you doing so.

For further confirmation, all registered plastic surgeons will be registered with BAAPS, the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.

However much you may wish to change your appearance, if you can’’t afford to have it done properly then you should not take the potentially fatal risk of trying to cut corners and expense.
