Inverted nipples – what operations are there to cure them?

Inverted nipples can be treated in various ways, and approaches will vary depending on the surgeon.

There are a number of different operations described to correct inverted nipples. One technique involves lifting up the thin productive skin from the areolas (the brown area around the nipple) and placing it under the nipples.

Other techniques use cartilage from the ear as a strut for the nipple.

In our opinion at Aurora, the most effective form of treatment for significantly inverted nipples is division of the milk ducts. This is because it is the milk ducts which are causing the nipples to retract and invert.

This operation is performed simply under local anaesthetic and takes approximately 30 minutes.

For more information on this procedure have a look at our videos which describe the technique and shows it being performed under local anaesthetic.
