In our latest episode in our Nipple Reduction FAQ series we discuss the type of anaesthetic used for surgery. The majority of the time, the surgery is performed under a local anaesthetic, as it is not too invasive of a procedure, and it avoids unnecessary expense, and an overnight hospital stay. You can request it to be done under a general anaesthetic, but it requires an overnight hospital stay, and is more expensive as a specialist anaesthetist needs to be present for the procedure.
If you are combining this surgery with something else, which does require a general anaesthetic, for example breast augmentation surgery, then you will be under general for the op, and it won’t cost extra on your nipple reduction surgery as the anaesthetist and overnight hospital stay is covered in your breast enlargement package.
