Can a Mini Tummy Tuck correct a C-Section skin overhang?
Question:
I recently had a consultation with regard to tummy tuck surgery as I have an overhang of skin which is the result of three Caesarean sections and an operation to remove an ovarian cyst.
One of my babies was born via a classical C-Section which means that I have a scar that extends from under my navel to the pubic area. I do not have loose hanging skin and my stomach is not very big. I exercise five times per week and am a sensible weight for my height. I want to have a tummy tuck to correct the overhang which is a by-product of the classical C-section.
I would prefer to have a mini tummy tuck as a full one will leave me with a long scar that will reach my hips. However, my surgeon has advised against this which has left me completely baffled as I do not have a lot of loose skin. What do you suggest?
Answer:
Thank you very much for your enquiry. It certainly sounds as though it could be possible to perform a mini tummy tuck which removes a portion of tissue from below the Caesarean scar but does not remove the tummy button.
A mini tummy tuck is only suitable for people who require minimal skin loss. Others would get a less than satisfactory result from a mini tummy tuck. This is why some surgeons favour full tummy tuck surgery.
I think it would be worthwhile listening to our free information CD on tummy tuck surgery which explains the mini tummy tuck in more detail.
