What is the best treatment for a discoloured/oddly shaped toenail?

Question:

Dear Aurora Clinics, I am writing in the hope that you can help me. One of my toenails has become discoloured and is shaped differently to the rest. I have noticed on one of your replies that this is something you can correct?

Answer:

Thank you very much for your enquiry about your discoloured toenail.

First thing is to try and work out what is causing the discoloration as this could be a by-product of pressure from your footwear or other trauma causing blood underneath the nail.

A condition such as this can also be caused by a blood blister located underneath the toenail. Therefore, it is important to treat the cause as this may correct the problem.

If your toenail has recently become darkened it is important to have this checked out by your GP. Occasionally skin cancers can appear on the skin which is underneath the nail so it is important to have this analysed.
